CILICIA. Antiochia ad Cragum. Caracalla (?), 198-217. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 30 mm, 15.33 g, 6 h). Μ ΑΥ ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟΝ ЄΥϹЄΒ ЄΥΤΥΧΗ ϹЄΒ Laureate and draped bust of Caracalla (or Elagabalus?) to right. Rev. ΑΝΤΙΟΧЄω ΤΗϹ ΠΑΡΑΛΙΟΥ Eagle standing facing on wreath, wings spread and head to left. RPC VI online 6982. SNG Levante 475. Very rare. Good fine.

From the collection of Dr. P. Vogl.

ΤΗС ΠΑΡΑΛΙΟΥ translates as 'on the Sea', an epithet that differentiates the city we know by its Latin name Antiochia ad Cragum ('Antiochia at the Kragos mountain') from the several other places named Antiochia. We have tentatively identified the emperor on the obverse as either Caracalla, but it could also be Elagabalus.
